Talk from the local net-Disaster timeline:
-Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 12:44 am: In Cheektowaga the power is off and on. Walden area.
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 2:15 am: My power is out. My back yard looks like a war zone. I went to get gas for the generator and the town looks like Armageddon. I've never seen orange lightning. This storm is definatley one to remember.
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 2:39 am: That's EXACTLY what i was thinking. I had to go out to my van which is stuck under a tree that fell on it. I needed to get some stuff out of it in case they move the tree and tow my van. While out there it was dead silent beside the sounds of cracking trees and the transformers that are sparking. The lightning looks like bombs going off in the distance. It was so creepy I was getting chills.
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 2:58 am: Lights flickering bright occasionally, but on. Should have gotten more surge suppressors.
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 3:38 am: I saw green lightning and someone else said they saw blue. You have Skittles lightning!!
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 4:22 am: Green lightning usually comes before a tornado.
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 7:24 am: I'm fortunate in the Harlem/Walden area cause I must be on the same transformer or whatever as St. Joes Hospital. Luckily we never seem to lose power but across the street it's out.
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 10:23 am: power just came back on in Depew..I hear it comes & goes here (been out surveying the damage)charging the cell, doing laundry & whatever I can while it's on..could go off anytime.. i'm actually enjoying the unexpected day off..but almost out of beer.. just walked around Lancaster/Depew with a couple of guys I met looking for an open store..didn't find anything..no tops, gas station, convenient store...nuthin.. anything open around you ?
- Fri. Oct. 13, 2006 11:21 am: Driving around Lockport is like driving in an obstacle course. Kinda creepy when you see huge limbs falling out of trees and then you have to drive under that tree to get where you want to go. The tree in my backyard has one of it's limbs down but it is just sitting harmlessly in the yard. I'll deal with it later. I have never seen Lockport like this before. It looks like a war zone out there.
